I started back to therapy, for a short time and decided to go back to Al-Anon. I've been MIA for 16 years and decided it was time seeing the new challenges in my life. I feel like I am in a better place now to process and make permanent decisions on a lot of issues I have struggled with for 34 years. One of them being my birth mom.
I have made a difficult and permanent decision, and that was one of the reason for therapy. I have decided, with the help of my therapist, to divorce my birth mom. It is necessary and long overdue. I have continued over the years to keep this "Fantasy" alive. I have kept up the charade that my birth mom will somehow miraculously change and be my fantasy mom.
Its an awakening for me, I feel like I have just woke up from a long sleep. I've looked around and realized I have been punishing myself, and practically begging this woman to love me. To accept me, and maybe even give me a hug and say, "I love you, unconditionally, no matter what." I've compromised, Ive given more than I have received, and truthfully, I do not like what I have been offered. I have been cheating myself, pretending that it doesn't matter, because she gave birth to me and I have to accept her the way she is. I have even tried to convince her to love my children, her grandchildren, based on Ancestry rules. She doesnt know my kids, and has never been interested in them since they were born.
NO WAY! Another BAM, smack in the face moment. A punch in the gut for me, literally! Hey, guess what, NO, I do NOT have to continue to speak to you because you gave birth to me. I get to decide who is in my life, and I have made the decision that I am a pretty good gal, and I am worthy of being loved, adored, appreciated and respected, unconditionally!
I have raised with my husband, three wonderful humans. Somehow, this woman I call my birth mom thinks her absence all these years is not a big deal. She feels she can reap the benefits of calling our children "Her grandchildren" even if she has been absent most of their lives. She feels it makes her look good, to have these three wonderful people as her grandchildren. She would like to turn these wonderful humans against my husband and I, if possible....which it is not possible.
The child she kept, is an addict, mentally ill and is a non functioning person. My full birth brother is a sad person. But he is also a dangerous person at the same time from what we have experienced. Our grown kids do not trust him. Another BAM, in my face moment. I do not want him in my life either, and my family does not want him in their lives . And guess what Cathy, you can say "NO." I have said NO!
I was knee deep in making a family tree on Ancestry. I drove down and borrowed my birth moms family pictures to scan them. I did a lot of work, put them all in new scrap books, organized everything. I have found all the missing families in Lebanon, not an easy task.
Then the reality of it all sunk in. Jealousy can be a dangerous emotion, dangerous and ugly and I believe this emotion is the catalyst for her behavior. I had actually spoke to my brother on private messenger for the first time in about 13 years. He asked about our grown kids, their jobs & lives. I told him they are all happy, successful and in jobs that support them and we couldn't be happier for them all. My birth mom stated she did not want to know what my brother and I talk about and not to even hint about our conversations. OK, no big deal. Next thing I know I am receiving a private message from her asking me not to tell my brother that our kids are successful and rich! Yes, I quote "Rich." Well, I have never stated anyone in my family are rich, its just not true! hahaha! She stated that by telling my brother that my kids have good jobs and are successful , will discourage him from seeking mental help! OMG! Seriously? He has been unstable and non functioning since his early 20's and he's now pushing 44 years old!
I guess that rule of not telling about my conversations with my brother only applies to me! He must have told her half truths about our conversation! Birth mom tells me that he feels bad that "The kids" are doing so well, he feels like a failure, etc. I reminded her that our kids are grown adults now, does my brother realize the oldest is 29 and should be in jobs to support themselves now! Hmmmm....well birth mom, your constant enabling of this grown man may be a big reason why he is almost 44 and still repeating the same mistakes and not seeking help and not able to take care of himself! She clearly does not see what she is doing, and it is NOT my place or job to make her see. Sad, but true, I just cant exert another ounce of energy on these two. They are not my problem!
Seriously, who does she think she is? She then has the nerve to elude to the fact that my brother has never done anything to our kids over the past 20 years. And has no idea why they have no interest in having a relationship with him! WOW! One can only guess that she has conveniently stuffed all the craziness that me, my husband and three grown adult children have experienced with my brother over the past 20 plus years. Like its all erased, never existed and we are made out to be the liars, the mentally ill ones. She has done this before, given me my brothers life and my life to my brother. What is even more frightening, she is believable, and she is convincing, and charming and I feel she is also a person one cannot trust. I finally had a voice and spoke up and said, OK birth mom, what do you think would happen if my grown kids saw him now? Do you think he is fit and mentally OK to see them? She answered NO! I said you are correct, if they saw him now, they'd never give him another chance! My brother has sent me the most bizarre and crazy messages, my oldest son has said that he is "Tweaking" on drugs or is in some sort of psychosis. Either could be true, he's done hard core drugs over the years, and I truly believe he is still doing them now. He was recently in jail I heard, and from what I understand was detoxing while in jail. Yeah, I know, I made this up too, its all a lie, he really was not in jail, and if you spoke to birth mom, she'd convince you I made it all up and I was the one in jail! HAHAHAHA!
She has absolutely nothing to offer me. No love, loyalty, time, kindness, truth, stability, absolutely nothing. Her morals, ideals, way of living and even her mother skills are completely and utterly opposite than mine. If she had not given birth to me, I would never even consider her as a friend. Her title is no longer important to me, and truthfully she is nothing more than an egg donor.
I had a revelation that I wish I had never met her, just found out the ancestry information I dearly wanted. Looking back I realize it was a mistake to waste so much time and energy on a woman who clearly has no plans on loving me, adoring me and my kids, and a person who without batting an eyelash, is capable of betraying me!

Grown babies are not the same...
My birth mom had been texting me, nothing really earth shattering, just common things like she's working a lot, its hot outside, can't wait for the weather to change. I was telling about my dad dying. We were not talking about my (brother) but she did bring him up a bit, and the way she talked about him you'd think he was fine. In the past she spoke about my (brothers) girlfriend, as though the situation was, in my mind, normal.
Being the searcher that I am, and the information at everyone's fingertips via internet, I looked for myself. If people do not make their social media "Private" it is open for the world to see. What I saw of my (brother) I did not like, I don't think I am being cruel, just brutally honest. I have to be honest, with myself about "What Is." I went my entire life before getting married in fantasy land, even years after getting married. Pretending that what was happening was not happening. It still goes on to a point now, within my family. But I cannot pretend that a person is wonderful when in reality they are not. I searched and found that my (brothers) girlfriend is my youngest sons age.
Anyhow, back on topic. My birth mom and I do not agree. She feels other men are pigs for dating super young women. However she feels her son dating inappropriately young women is perfectly fine. We will never agree.
I started blogging years ago after dealing with my birth moms betrayal and years of her ignoring me, and a lot of wounds dealing with adoption and just life. I really thought she'd want to know me, get another chance with me by being part of my children's lives, but in reality that was not the case. She searched for me, paid someone to find me, and once she did, it was like she disappeared so to speak. I have to be honest and say she did change, the woman I met in 1984 is not the woman in year 2015. I really don't know her, she changed back around 1993, a lot of years lost. I'd like things to be different, but they can't be changed, and unfortunately, she has no intention on changing. She has chosen my (brother) and has decided to dig her heels in the sand and ignore me, my family, my children and I am guessing my own grandchildren when the time comes.
So this accident, of texting another woman named (Cathy) with a "k" was when I realized this recent texting was just so she had something to gossip about. Anything and everything I had to say she was turning around like a teenager and gossiping about it. When I texted her back and told her that I realized she accidentally texted me, her response was ridiculous, and its embarrasing reading her text. She told her best friend (Kathy) that I had told her about my dad dying, and that I had some nerve telling her this when I have a blog about "Her." Her text messages got ridiculous, after realizing she had made a mistake and whoops, texted me! Here's our dialogue:
ME: I'm guessing that was for the other "Cathy"
HER: What? Don't know...I got phone back now, Linda was using it. She's in fight with her mom, she's controlling her life, $$ etc...They fight like cats & dogs...guess its the heat?
HER: I'm getting on freeway, can't wait to get home sweating like a pig!
ME:: I do have a blog-its not about you, its about me and my experience & life. If everyone was honest and faced what has been done and what has happened, there wouldn't be a big surprise I write this blog. Its what has saved me dealing with everything.
ME: You and I have had a strained relationship and you know why. I am not the bad guy in all this, not one person is to blame.
ME: I was around when your mom died and after - it shouldn't be so hard listening to my experience now - Im guessing you talk to non related people about life.
ME: I do too - I also question why we are talking - its unfortunate that (my brothers) life has changed ours because I have not had a firm solid relationship with anyone - I understand how you feel for me is different. Its expected. But I also remember the old you - how you used to be, even the old (brother) which always gives me hope that maybe it can be fixed, be how it used to be.
ME: IF that is wrong, I am wrong.
ME: I don't want anything from you but probably what Ive always wanted which never happened, without going into a long explanation. You know. The things you never got from YOUR mom.
ME: Im a double loser, I've lost out on 2 moms, that is my cross to carry
ME: And no I don't really have strong ties to anyone except Steve, and our 3 kids and my sister. I have accepted that. I am loyal to my parents and sister-no they are not perfect, nobody is, but I have more history with them growing up than I do you and (brother)
ME:: I would have liked it to be different - but its not and probably cannot be. I'd love to have you come rushing to me with open arms, saying you were wrong and that you love me. Yep that is what Id like, not very realistic but that is the truth
ME: The anger over time is disappointment and realization I will never have a mom. That is why I blog. Its about me. not you per-se - just as I am not that baby you lost . I am not mad, just greatly disappointed. I had a lot of dreams and hope.
ME: Anyhow you don't have to keep talking to me, I get it.
HER: I don't have a problem with you voicing your opinions, feelings & thoughts. Your entitled. Its really hot today & Im working so I can't really say much right now. My client yesterday was having similar issues with her mom & daughter. They all write about their feelings, thats how this was brought up. Its more common than u think. will TTYL
Anyhow, the weather seemed to be more important than anything. Forget about how I feel. We had a little conversation, and we discussed her brother that went missing in action, so I accidentally found pics of her other brother and their son who is now in college. She had not seen pics of him in probably 14 years, so I texted her pics of him now. She never did respond again, the last text was August 29, 2015.
So the bottom line is, I endured one death after another. Her dads death, then her moms death, then her brothers death, birth dads mom. I went to all of their funerals. Not a single one had a picture of me in the pictures that were posted at the funeral, just my brother! My uncle was homeless and living in a shelter, a prior heroine addict when he died. I bought the food for the funeral, which is not the important thing, but the fact that I was involved was the important fact.
Now she is bitching that I have told her about the misery surrounding my dad dying, and she has the audacity to mimic me, yet talk nice to me in text? Seriously? Her mom had said to me when alive, in a nasty voice and with a bitter look on her face, that "She did not owe me nothin" - this somehow escaped from her mouth, although it shouldn't have! This was when I stopped to say hello to her on my way home from somewhere, before she died. I never asked anyone in my birth family for money, for material items....just love and attention. I sat with my birth mom after her mom had died, in the hospital, for probably 8 hours. It was not fun, they had to leave the ventilator in her mouth, so it was a very heartbreaking experience for me, and I had never seen someone die before.
I wish I could understand where she is coming from. I have made it very clear how I feel. My brother is bipolar, has permanent brain damage from drug use, has severe OCD, panic disorder, and lives his life on the edge and is an addict. He dates a girl old enough to be his daughter, who incidentally looks like a pole dancer, and has naked pics of herself on the internet for the world to see. I am dreadfully embarrassed to admit this man is related to me. As my oldest son has said, my (brother) is a pervert, none of my kids can believe he dates little girls, I'm included in this! My birth mom does not even know my kids, I don't think she even knows me. She has lied about me, written letter to a (now x friend ) of mine, words she wrote I don't know that I can ever undo. She has never apologized, said she is sorry, that she is wrong, and probably worse of all she has never said I love you, that I can recall.
I feel I deserve more than this, and I am lovable, and I am trustworthy. Having said this, I cannot change her and my (brothers) life choices, and again, this is even a good example of how the "Adoptee" looks like the crazy one. In their little cuckoo circle and altered reality they live in, I am painted as the crazy daughter who lies, that tells stories, and I would bet my own life that this woman I call my birth mom has lied to her friend "Kathy" about what has happened, and anyone and everyone who will listen to her. I can guarantee I am painted as the crazy daughter, as she wrote my X Friend, made me appear to be the mentally ill person and gave my (brother) my life. He is the one that is supposedly living a normal life, with a wife and kids!!!!! Hahahaha! Even though he's never been married and has no children.
THIS IS HOW ADOPTION HAS ROYALLY MESSED WITH MY LIFE. Non-adoptee's don't deal with this sort of thing, and probably the most shocking thing is SHE KEPT him and not me, and even after all these years, even after I have honestly lived a very genuinely good life, she paints me as the CRAZY GIRL! The dirty, disheveled, tossed away girl, left on the side of the road, or in the shopping cart, that nobody wanted.
There it is, another angle of adoption that not everyone out there understands. No resolution.

Seriously can't believe this!
My husband drove me to my parents house late tonight. Since my accident a few weeks ago I'm still scared to drive the crazy freeway.
My mom is going in for an angiogram, she may need a stent or if that is not possible, open heart surgery. She is not planning on that, so I don't know what is going to happen.
My sister cannot get here until tomorrow night, so I came early so she is not alone the day before the procedure.
My last visit was hell, no nice way to put it. I stayed up 3 nights in a row to get the real picture of what is going on here when my sister and I are not around. My sister doesn't spend the night, she comes for a visit during the day. Although she did spend the night for the first time in a long time, last week.
So we decide to go to bed , mom comes into the room and tells me she cleaned off the other bed, and not to sleep in the bed I always sleep in when I come here. Mind you I'm here all the time, and I stay days at a time. I'm at a loss for words. She tells me no, that is my sisters bed, you sleep in this one.
Now this sounds trivial to a lot of people out there, Im sure! So...I stay here days on end on a regular basis, my sister stays one time and I don't get to sleep in the same bed I always sleep in? And this is the bed with the mattress topper!
OK, whatever. I text my husband, and tell him what mom said. He always knows how to get me out of this funk. He responds by saying, "Thats because your just a number." I laughed to myself. And responded to him, "Yep, your right." His response sounds mean, but its not. Its dreadfully true. My adoption papers all state baby girl #, no name, and so that is our inside joke. I am not a real daughter, just a number, a purchase of theirs. Basically, I do not count. That is how he jolts me out of this la-la land of wanting a good mom, and to not feel sad, etc.
So I sit here, on top of my bed at my parents house typing this blog. In the dark, as I plan on sleeping on top of this bed, not to dirty my sisters sheets! Wow, what a punch in the gut. Who are they kidding, and how much can a person take. I am very glad I brought 2 bottles of wine to soften the blows from mom this week, maybe I will sleep and not lay awake wondering why I'm here, away from my family, trying to help a woman that really doesn't care or think very highly of me or even want me here.
Adoption will never work for me. And I know that I will have to make peace with this mess and somehow be a better person and not get all choked up and feel like I've shrunk back to age 10!!! I have to be the better person, take care of people that don't care for me. Its tough, but has to be done, with character, and kindness. Its a big test, and I have to pass this one. Maybe that is why I have been put here, in this situation, with these people?

Dirty, disheveled girl...but obedient.
My sister and I were discussing the fact that my mom has somewhat lost it, which is why I told her about mom's comment about "Now your part of a family Cathy"
Her response was something like - I dont think she meant that, your just sensitive.
I'm sensitive? Well, yeah. Especially when my mom says insensitive stuff to me!
And why wouldnt I be sensitive? And how would SHE feel if mom said to her, "Now your part of a family" at age 48?
Well, it would NEVER happen, because my sister was not adopted, I was. And my sister doesnt feel how I feel, because she was not adopted. AND my sister was not abused by my dad, because she was not adopted. and, per my sister, she had a "Perfect" childhood. Hmmm...well...we must have lived in different homes!
Im not mad at her, she just doesnt get it . And its not her fault she was not adopted, just as its not my fault that I was!
I guess she thinks I should continue forgiving and somehow eliminate all of the things that mom says? Im sick of trying to be "Thick Skinned" and constantly processing what this woman says. Its funny how she was confused when I told her that "SHE" had her mom, but it was not in the cards for me. She already knows that I have been micro managing my mom since the time I was around 5. I have been forgiving her and trying to win her affection and love most of my life. But having said this, its taken its toll on our relationship. Do we even have one? Not really. But I know my place, the #2 daughter, the obedient girl, the dirty, and disheveled one.
I sat in mis-matched clothes. Too big, and doughty looking, sometimes hand me downs. Looking back I now know why I always made my own clothes once I learned to sew. But I never quite felt put together. I was punished for not "Liking" the clothes and shoes other people gave my parents. One day my dad came home from work, saw these shoes next to the back door which I guess meant they were not being used. He freaked out, hit me on the back of the leg with the bottom of these shoes which had a hiking type of bottom. Left a huge bruise, somewhat bloody mark. I guess this is why I have such a bitter feeling when it comes to how I look. Its a life long struggle to somehow learn that I deserve to have nice things. I am not mismatched, I am not defective. They were the ones that had the problem, not being able to accept someone else's baby.

More trials and tribulations...life is but a test
Two weekends ago my sister and I went to visit mom to celebrate my sisters birthday.
I am having Thanksgiving at my house this year, first time ever really. So I thought while I'm at moms house I will grab all of my china from her garage. My name is written on a lot of stuff out there. So I just grabbed all that I could see. Last Christmas said cute husband bought me a 1930's china cabinet we picked out together. I'm too cheap, I wouldnt have bought it if he wasnt with me! ha! So I've waited 27 years to display my beautiful china!
I got home, it was around 11pm, I stayed up and unpacked all of it. Unwrapped all of my grandmothers dishes from World War II. My mom's mom I mean. Along with my dads mothers china and some special items like cut glass perfume bottles and many other things dad must have brought back from the war.
The next day came, mom called to see if I had a chance to unpack the stuff. I told her oh yes, I stayed up until around 1am to unpack everything. She seemed surprised and said "Oh" -- I told her that I realized while unpacking that I now have about 4 womens china in my cabinet. That I told Steve my husband that it was absolutely amazing, he agreed. Wait for it, here it comes...oh yes she did say it......
"Oh see now your part of a family Cathy"
I respond, Uh........
"Oh I really wanted you"
Silence on my part....
I was at a loss for words....
My mom elaborated, went on about how lucky I was to get the china and said that possibly my niece, my SISTERS daughter may want the china but dad had put my name on the box. I remember mom telling me years ago that I would get her mothers china...
I respond, Uh huh, well mom I will share the china with my niece, she can have it for awhile and we can all use it for special occasions. I went on to tell her that I was planning on using the china for Thanksgiving.
Incidentally I ordered another 8 dinner plates off ebay, won the bid so now we do have enough plates for everyone come Thanksgiving.
Being adopted is so strange at times. Mom saying that "NOW" I am part of the family left me feeling odd inside. I was painting furniture when she said this, and now forever I will look at that piece of furniture and remember her words. Funny how a person can be as old as 48 and still feel empty inside at times when someone such as your own mom comes up with possibly trivial words (to her) that can do so much hurt and damage inside.
So I clicked on Netflix this morning, I have a little Mac in the kitchen so I can listen to movies or music while I cook. What is up to play, "Lilo and Stitch" -- a cartoon movie. Wow, was this planned by someone up there? You know this movie incorporates adoption. Stitch feels lost, screams out he is lost, and Lilo tells him "Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind, or forgotten." This part of the movie really is emotional for me. So sweet and the face this little creature makes, I can identify with.
I feel like that little creature at times, like a lost little puppy. Then I look around, see what I have created with my own family and I am shaken back into reality. I am the mom now, I have control over my own life. I just ordered 8 more Noritake Ridgewood dinner plates for Thanksgiving, and I am going to have such a nice Thanksgiving table this year. Probably spray some mini pumpkins silver to decorate the table. Make cute little old fashioned flower arrangements. I can always pick myself back up and move forward, focusing on the exciting things coming up in life. Mom will enjoy seeing her mothers china this year!
I dont like to wallow in sorrow for myself or focus too much on the cutting words that could possibly mean nothing to my mom really. Possibly just a mess up on her part, loss of words, not being able to accurately tell me how she feels about me? I like to think this is what makes her say such heartbreaking and cutting words.

The "Card" for my mom
I dont recall the last time I purchased a card for mom. I usually print a pic, and make my own card that requires just a "Love Cathy" signature on the inside. No long, complicated verses of trust, love, devotion, adoration, cherished memories, etc.
I didnt make her a card this year for her birthday, husband was very sick and we spent time in the ER the day before we got together to celebrate her birthday. On the way I stopped at the local party store, I walked to the card section that said "For her" and I looked around to make sure nobody was near. I usually end up with a lump in my throat and have a few tears escape reading the "For her" cards. I picked one up, didnt see too much mumbo jumbo on the front, grabbed the envelope. Started to walk away, and stopped. I went to the other side and saw this card I liked, a sweet painted pic of a mother and daughter, opened it up, and realized this was the card. I put it back. Then grabbed it again, put it back, and grabbed again.
I forced myself to walk to the check out. Theres no escaping now, someone is standing in line behind me, I thought. I grabbed some blow pops candy and kept my eyes searching for things to read to distract me until it was my turn to pay.
I bought the card. I walked out, drove to my sisters house, and I signed my name. That was seriously painful, so painful I was sweating. Yeah, it was hot outside, but I wasnt really moving for about 20 minutes while driving with the air conditioning on! ha! I debated about giving her the card, but I didnt have an alternative to give her.
The card was given, I could feel my heart pounding. I took a pic of her reading the card, her facial expression was unusual. She got teary eyed. Now that wasnt so hard I thought to myself, or was it?
It was hard, and I'm still lamenting over this today. The card is racing through my mind, the picture of the mother and daughter still stuck in my mind.
I texted my daughter who is up in college, something was mentioned about my mom, and then I mentioned to her about the card I gave her. My daughter knows I dont give mom store bought cards and why. She said something like "Oh really" with surprise in her voice after I told her I gave mom a sappy mother/daughter card. I texted her a pic of the card, and told her this is the card I'd give my mom. Well, I did give this to my mom. But this is how I want to feel, and this is how I should feel when I give her this sort of card. I told my daughter this is how I feel for HER, so I know I CAN feel this way.
I feel cheated, and like I'm back in first grade and Sister Marceline Marie has caught me talking when I should be quiet . I feel guilt , like I've cheated my own mother as well. This is just a card but it has such a larger meaning and there is so much attached to this little card. The picture on the cover is worth a thousand words. Nobody has to explain the meaning, it's understood, its a universal feeling .

ADOPTION, the consuming life sucker
Adoption has sucked up so much of my life. When you talk to the general public they react to adoption like its no big deal, real simple, something that happens in life. They are severely disillusioned about the reality of it all. If I decided to speak up and tell them about my experience, I would look like the crazy one when done talking. Angelina Jolie came up because of her recent brave move to have a double mastectomy. In talking about her, adoption comes up. I want to blast her out of the water, and tell the others what I think about her stealing babies. I choose my words wisely, I say something very reserved and safe. I know the general public doesnt understand the reality of adoption!
Some actually think that being in reunion is a great thing, that by finding this family that relinquished us is a good thing, so wonderful. How lucky I am to have a 2nd family. They are in complete darkness as to how disabling this journey has been for me and I'd guess for so many others. I agree it was great to know the genetics and family tree. Very fascinating. But cant I just have the facts, the pictures and data without all of the other nonsense for the past 30 years? It would have been nice to be spared the years of mental torture and deep sadness and continued disappointments and repeated abandonment.
My birth mom is a fraud, a con artist, a cheat, a liar, cannot tell the truth to save her own life. She has chosen the dark side, so I call it when I want to make it all seem funny. She is Darth Vader, I have joked for years to make it all seem bearable. My birth brother is a cuckoo bird but a dangerous one. In writing this today I realize how crazy it all really is!
So that is the package deal. This is the hand I was dealt, the precious gift I was given with reunion. The slap in the face, the punch in the gut, the embarrassment, the shock . How does a 20 year old girl deal with this? Apparently its ended up taking me all these years to actually process and escape it all, until the age of 48. To be able to say this beautiful morning, that I am OK. That I do not have to accept these people as my family. My family is my husband and my children. I choose to be happy, I choose to have only positive and happy people in my life, regardless of who they are.
What a crazy, emotional and drama filled ride I've taken. So many issues to resolve, to be able to be "ME" --I could have just buried it all, swept it under the carpet, but I would not be this version of "ME" by doing so. I'd be a pissed off "ME" or a miserable "ME" or worse, a divorced "ME" if I could not figure it out. Yes, this is how adoption can be disabling and the destroyer of a lot of things.
Adoption has altered my life experiences a lot. By being open and honest about it, by going to therapy I have survived adoption. I dont speak about this a lot any longer even with my husband, because we already both know how I feel and the reality of it all. We kind of have all the answers, everything has been discussed. If something comes up about it, we both just nod at each other. We know what the other is thinking.
But how about those unfortunate souls that cant for whatever the reason break through all of this? Years of abuse, cruelty and dysfunction are hard to process. Both my birth family and adoptive family are not "Fixed" -- I'm the one that is fixed. Its been a huge undertaking, a project to sort out all of the issues, there are so many. I sat last night and read through my blogs for the first time. WOW, I cant believe how much blogging has helped me! Writing down my feelings and posting them really does work. Its OK if nobody says a word to me about what I think and feel. The point is, what I blog about is real and its how I feel. I dont want to argue.
I've written in the past, does it all really matter anyhow? Yes it matters to me, and my husband as well. Because all of this hogwash, for lack of better term, really happened. It happened to me, for most of my life. But without looking at it straight in the face, by tacking it, the best and only way I knew how, has saved ME. I am OK, and I like ME. I am the happiest I have ever been in my life. Truly happy. I enjoy the small stuff and I can "usually" be around my family without as much upset.
I want to be better , I want to listen to others more clearly, I want to be less cautious and careful about life. Because of my experiences with adoption and family, I tend to be more cautious with people, I dont listen as well as I should. Its hard to explain, but I think it could be because I'm so afraid of saying the wrong thing, I get caught up in being careful about what I may say, so I have a hard time listening. I dont have anxiety, or depression, so I guess its some sort of disconnect I have. I guess years of being silenced and being afraid to speak the truth and my own opinion has taken its toll on my social skills. Not to mention the fact that I was given the family gift of being psychic or whatever you want to call it. Yes, I know it sounds crazy, but its true. Long family line of clairvoyant folks. My great great grandfather was a MD and psychic all in one back in the old country of Lebanon. See, this is the interesting stuff I was happy to know. I also gave this gift to my two sons. Another issue I have to tackle in life. I dont have as many friends because of this family gift, I sometimes think its a burden of knowing things I dont want to know. I guess this really is the main reason why I struggle when meeting people and why I have a difficult time listening. Im too busy getting signs and signals other ways. hahaha! I know it all sounds unbelievable, but it is unfortunately true. And why I say my birth mom has gone to the dark side, its an inside joke, she too is clairvoyant/psychic, I got it from her. But she does not use it to her benefit and for the positive, which is why I call her Darth Vader. And by not being good, she has lost the abilities to a point.
I will end this here, and hope that I can continue to be a better person, mother, daughter, sister and friend. And, someday I hope to find a school to sharpen my skills and use them in a positive way!

All seems fine and then....
I dont speak with my birth mom, at all. Last year we spoke for the first time in years and I had to stop all communication, again. Its funny, we've been in reunion since 1984, but during those years, she's been missing in action most of the time, or I have chosen to stay away from her. I have not seen her on Holiday's, she hates them all. She has never really sent my kids birthday cards and has not been involved with them over the years. She has chosen to be absent from our lives all these years.
Anyhow, the one and only person on both sides of my birth family that I speak with is my aunt. she is my birth dads sister. She was informed by my birth mom that my brother was in the hospital after sinus surgery, bleeding. She originally told her it was sinus, but I found a pic on line that showed he was recently punched in the nose....so who knows the truth. Seems my birth mom can never tell the truth to save her own life. Anyhow, she contacts my aunt, even though she has nothing nice to say about her. Well, she has nothing nice to say about anyone! This makes me believe she has nobody else to call? She is alone.
I feel sorry for them. No, I cant go to their aid. I cant call them. I cant trust them. I wish it were different. I wish, I wish their kooky problems and craziness was somewhat "Normal" -- and I mean "Normal" in the sense there is NO pornography, selling drugs, trying to date underage girls.... Their lives are totally spun out of control. They both live on the edge, just a couple breaths away from being in jail. My grown son is scared of my brother, thinks he has tried killing/harming him.
My life is good, fairly calm, and I am happier than I've ever been my entire life. I think its because I made the choice to keep them out of my life. Its is sad, and it is a loss. But life goes on, and as it does, the pain gets less and less.
